Among the epiphanies visited upon humanity during the pandemic has been the recognition that mental health is an issue for all of us. With lives universally turned upside down, the collective conclusion has been that psyches will need help getting back to “normal.”Which makes the 2008 musical, “Next to Normal,” a timely choice to close the 25th season of Minneapolis musical theater purveyors Theater Latte Da. The story of a family struggling with a matriarch’s bipolar disorder is not only a groundbreaking rock-driven dive into how mental illness is treated in America, but also an ideal showcase for the artistry of the company’s founding artistic director, Peter Rothstein. He’s off to become head of Asolo Repertory Theatre — kind of like the Guthrie of Florida — and it’s hard to imagine a farewell that showcases his directing skills better. Not only is every detail attentively shaped and imaginatively presented, but each character is created with compassion as the key sculpting tool. ...‘Everything we hoped for and then some’: Lynx retire Sylvia Fowles’ No. 34 jersey
