Despite loss, SF Giants ace and rookie catcher were ‘in perfect sync’

SAN FRANCISCO – Logan Webb and Patrick Bailey might have given a glimpse of what’s to come for the Giants as the right-handed ace and the rookie catcher remained in complete harmony through six impressive innings Saturday against the Miami Marlins.Webb had seven strikeouts and allowed just four hits in another solid outing as he threw to Bailey, who made his first MLB start and picked up his first hit for the Giants in the eighth inning. But those were the biggest highlights for San Francisco, which was held to three hits in a 1-0 loss to the Marlins before an announced crowd of 31,993 on a mostly overcast day at Oracle Park.Marlins starter Braxton Garrett struck out eight over 6 1/3 innings as the Giants had their four-game winning streak halted in their fifth shutout loss of the season.“With respect to the way we swung the bat, I think we can do a better job than we did collectively as a team today,” Giants manager Gabe Kapler said. “Sometimes a guy comes ou...

Scheffler’s slide ends with fortunate skip of ball in 3rd round of PGA Championship

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 21:27:58 GMT

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — As quickly as he plummeted out of co-leading the PGA Championship by starting his third round with four bogeys through seven holes, Scottie Scheffler understood things could have been worse. An errant shot out of the rain-soaked and thick rough on Oak Hill’s seventh hole had the ball headed directly for Allen’s Creek. Rather than plop in the water, the ball skipped like a stone and settled on the fairway on the other side.“That would have definitely been a kick in the gut for sure if the ball went in the hazard,” Scheffler said after finishing with a round of 3-over 73, which left him at 2-under 208 and four shots behind leader Brooks Koepka entering the final round. “Definitely fortunate to not have the ball not end up in the creek, and saved me a full shot at least.”Though he bogeyed the par-4 seventh, little did Scheffler realize at the time the hole would prove to be a turning point a day he began at 5-under and tied for the lead with Corey Conners an...

Smoky skies cause poor visibility around Denver

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 21:27:58 GMT

DENVER (KDVR) -- It looks like something out of an apocalyptic Hollywood movie, but it's just Saturday in the Denver area. Several wildfires burning thousands of miles north in the Western Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia are sending smoke south to the Centennial State. The smoke has become so prevalent and thick, visibility is an issue. Video a driver shot in Highlands Ranch shows how dense the air is, which looks like a dirty fog. The National Weather Service said the thickest of the smoke would be in the Denver area Saturday morning. Denver’s air quality still ranks among the worst in the world Saturday The fires don't seem to be letting up and an air quality health advisory issued by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has been in place for the past two days. "Although the air quality continues to gradually improve across the Front Range region, health impacts are expected to linger through Sunday afternoon due to the extended exposure t...
