California’s sober home rules headed to another courtroom showdown U.S. Supreme Court, seated from left, Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Clarence Thomas, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., Samuel A. Alito and Elena Kagan. Standing from left, Amy Coney Barrett, Neil M. Gorsuch, Brett M. Kavanaugh, and Ketanji Brown Jackson.(Fred Schilling, Collection of the Supreme Court of the United States) Who’s really disabled? Wisdom on this from the Supremes could have crystalized squishy matters of law and, as the city sees it, saved people’s lives. But last week, the Supremes declined to take up those questions, sending the whole matter back to square one — to federal court for trial on the merits. It’s a bit of a bummer for the city, and somewhat encouraging for the operators, but by no means suggests the city won’t prevail...

Liz Weston: Companies’ deceptive ‘dark patterns’ online cost you money — here’s how to fight back See if any of this sounds familiar:● You can’t find an easy way to cancel an unwanted subscription, so you let it continue for another month — telling yourself you’ll try again later.● You feel rushed into an online purchase you regret, but there’s no option to undo the transaction or demand a refund.● You want to read an article or shop at a store online, but you’re bombarded with pop-up requests for your data.
